Just recently, new QWASI President Nadya Neklioudova went on an Easter-holiday adventure with her family to NSW. In this small series of blog posts, she will highlight some of the places she’s been:

Kalkari Discovery Centre – 402 Ku-ring-gai Chase Road, Mount Colah, NSW, 2079, Ku-ring-gai Chase NP, Sydney

A lovely spot to feel inspired by Nature, experience peace and quiet after a long drive, and stretch those legs! The lovely and helpful volunteers at the Discovery Centre were very happy to chat and show us around, even though we got there with 45 minutes to spare before closing time. The Discovery Centre itself is a mini museum, with a lot of exhibits and information about the local wildlife and Aboriginal culture. Several reproductions of First Nations artwork on stones around the Centre garden invite families to ponder and engage with the art (without harming the original, precious cultural artefacts).

My daughter and I appreciated the signs along the walk – signifying there might be a Greater Glider, Sugar Glider or other possum sleeping in a hollow tree, reminding children to be respectful. We also learned what Cheese Trees have to do with cheese, looked at some 200-million-year-old sandstone outcrops, and met a few local Kangaroos. If you’re in the Sydney area, this place is a wonderful spot to visit for some peace, quiet and inspiration.
