I have discovered the beauty of our native Australian kingfishers and created a series of works with Coral and Flame trees from the Montville and Maleny districts. The iridescent spots on the feathers look like little lights and the Azure Kingfisher is in particular luminescent and lovely to paint. I love to forage for branches and leaves in my local area for reference so I can study the fine detail and create a more realistic setting for my native wildlife. I travel in the countryside when the Flame tree is in flower and get ideas for the backgrounds with my birds.

I have been lately working on some paintings of Cassowary and Emus. The leathery skin is fascinating and the eyes are so translucent and beautiful to paint. My backgrounds come from the jungle in my backyard so I can always go out and collect a new leaf and add it to my painting.
